Motivation

Herald (id 114b, 2026-07-03) + Surveyor (via Herald) flagged internal-content-leaking-to-public class on the Codeberg mirror. External ChatGPT review (2026-07-03, filed as #329-#338) DIRECTLY named 'invented terminology such as substrate-honest used far beyond what improves clarity' + 'hex agent identifiers + internal AI-review materials shipped as part of the public product' as AI-shaped-smell characteristics that dampen perceived project maturity.

Register-audit tracker consolidating what were initially two separate axes (Herald id f34c fold-suggestion: 'same finding one category wider, single audit is cleaner than two overlapping').

Two audit axes

Axis 1 — invented jargon vocabulary:

  • 'substrate-honest' — spread across 5 ADRs + CHANGELOG + workflows + scripts + AGENTS.md on the public mirror
  • Adjacent jargon: 'mechanism-of-touch', 'codified-to-embodied', 'substrate', 'bus-ping'
  • Public-facing files carrying crew-register that adopters can't decode

Axis 2 — provenance-links + agent-identifiers:

  • Chamber-names in comments + ADRs + CHANGELOG (Surveyor, Bosun, Herald, Pilot, QM)
  • Hex agent identifiers (e.g., 'Surveyor 41ce', 'QM 522a')
  • alcatraz-infra#N issue references (internal Forgejo tracker, adopters can't resolve)
  • tmux-tell provenance references (internal chamber-coordination substrate name-drops)

Both axes fall under 'internal-references adopters cannot follow → undermines perceived project maturity.'

Scoped-decision required

Axis A — do we want this register on the public mirror?

  • Option 1: KEEP — register-preservation captures specific disciplines
  • Option 2: SCRUB — public mirror uses plain adopter-facing register; internal chamber docs (docs/internal/, AGENTS.md maintainer-scope) keep the crew register

Axis B — if SCRUB, replacement strategy?

  • Direct-translation for load-bearing terms (e.g., 'substrate-honest' → 'verify at source' or 'ground in evidence')
  • Delete redundant usages that don't carry information
  • Move provenance-heavy sections (retro material, cross-chamber discussion) to docs/internal/ scope
  • Chamber-names + hex identifiers: usually deletable (they identify the reviewer, not the mechanism)

Herald flags id 114b + f34c (2026-07-03) + ChatGPT external review 2026-07-03 (BookStack: release-toolkit book, page 210). Same class as #315 register-shift, expanded to repo-wide + both jargon-and-provenance axes.

Supersedes: originally-filed #341 (provenance-leak audit) — folded into this tracker per Herald f34c scope-tighten advice.

Register-audit tracker consolidating what were initially two separate axes (Herald id f34c fold-suggestion: 'same finding one category wider, single audit is cleaner than two overlapping'). ## Two audit axes **Axis 1 — invented jargon vocabulary**: - 'substrate-honest' — spread across 5 ADRs + CHANGELOG + workflows + scripts + AGENTS.md on the public mirror - Adjacent jargon: 'mechanism-of-touch', 'codified-to-embodied', 'substrate', 'bus-ping' - Public-facing files carrying crew-register that adopters can't decode **Axis 2 — provenance-links + agent-identifiers**: - **Chamber-names** in comments + ADRs + CHANGELOG (Surveyor, Bosun, Herald, Pilot, QM) - **Hex agent identifiers** (e.g., 'Surveyor 41ce', 'QM 522a') - **alcatraz-infra#N** issue references (internal Forgejo tracker, adopters can't resolve) - **tmux-tell provenance** references (internal chamber-coordination substrate name-drops) Both axes fall under 'internal-references adopters cannot follow → undermines perceived project maturity.' ## Scoped-decision required **Axis A — do we want this register on the public mirror?** - Option 1: KEEP — register-preservation captures specific disciplines - Option 2: SCRUB — public mirror uses plain adopter-facing register; internal chamber docs (docs/internal/, AGENTS.md maintainer-scope) keep the crew register **Axis B — if SCRUB, replacement strategy?** - Direct-translation for load-bearing terms (e.g., 'substrate-honest' → 'verify at source' or 'ground in evidence') - Delete redundant usages that don't carry information - Move provenance-heavy sections (retro material, cross-chamber discussion) to `docs/internal/` scope - Chamber-names + hex identifiers: usually deletable (they identify the reviewer, not the mechanism) ## Coordination - Herald prose-craft primary (same fresh-lens discipline as #160 + #314); Herald offered dispatch acceptance post-blocker-close per id f34c - QM substrate-context for which usages are load-bearing vs archaeology-nostalgia - Cross-link to BookStack ChatGPT review page as source-of-record: https://docs.saratow.net/books/release-toolkit/page/external-review-anonymous-chatgpt-session-2026-07-03 - Set J-adjacent (public-hygiene arc pre-v1.0.0) but its own scope; sequenced after v1.0.0 blockers (#329-#338) per Herald's steer to keep cut-chain uncluttered ## Anchor Herald flags id 114b + f34c (2026-07-03) + ChatGPT external review 2026-07-03 (BookStack: release-toolkit book, page 210). Closed via #352 (merged f054c81) — register-audit scrub of internal crew register from adopter-facing surfaces. Surveyor APPROVED (review 3535).
